Well, as I understand people increasingly expect the next World War to not be fought over Oil or resources, but it would rather be a war of Religions.

What I heck dont understand is this - why are people so hell-bent on spreading their religion? It is not their's to start with.

I am termed a Hindu, for the records. But who decided it? Not me for sure... Hinduism is not my Idea... what is written in the so-called religious scriptures is not my creativity, neither did I witness those incidents nor was told about those by 'The God'.
Similar is the case with Christianity - the Christ is a 1000 year old story and you know how things get distorted over a couple of decades. Why would one have believe what is written in Bible is from 'The God's Son'??
Same is the case with Islam - who knows what the prophet meant to tell the people. Who knows if ever there was a prophet and he was 'in touch' with the God? It is all a collection of books and hear-say.
Other religions too - Budhism, Taoism and all the shit-load of religions all over the world.

WHY? Why would you lose your identity to believe in something that you never thought of on your own- why would you be led into believing some ideas (I am careful not to say stupid or idotic ideas, because I am trying hard to not be judgemental) that were surely 'created' at some point by someone and have since been 'abridged' 'tweaked' 'fiddled' or whatever.

Self-check makes me question myself why I am using English, afterall it is not invented by me. And why follow the english grammar and Syntax. Yes, given - it is not my own invention. Nor do I like having to communicate in this language.
But I can understand why one needs to try to stick to the language - because it is easier for me to communicate to the people around me and have the things I require or get what I wanted done. But again, I dont want to spread English - I dont force people to learn english and I dont think that people who do not learn English are traitors or sinners and I dont preach them the goods and bads of English. Nor do I do that with the other languages that I know, Hindi/Telugu. I am least bothered if someone thinks that English is shit - so be it, how does that matter to me? Its just my means of communication.
If someone thinks that Telugu is loud or Hindi is rude, so be it.
If someone calls me names and writes, say in the comments, that I am an SOB or an MFer, it doesnt matter to me much - afterall, those are just letters to form words. They cant and wont change the truth that I know, truth that is not in English nor in Hindi nor Telugu nor any other language. Language is just a means - and since everyone around me follows the same, it is easier for me to follow the same than to invent my own.

Not the justification you can give for religion. Why do I have to believe in One 'GOD' and deride and despise other 'GOD's. Why do I believe when someone wearing a saffron cloth or green attire and white poros cap or wearing a white robe and white chef-like cap tells me the 'Truth' and wants me to spread it?
Why am I bothered if someone around me believes in a 'GOD' that I donot believe in or vice versa? ya - I am not bothered, I dont hate Hindus, I dont hate Muslims, I dont hate Christians, I dont hate Atheists either. I dont judge anyone on their religion. It doesnt define one.

So this is not a hate speech, but I am just confused why one has to go to the extent of killing others or protesting against someone 'converting' people of 'MY' religion to 'THEIR' religion. Why does one frikking care?

These religions, these scriptures are mostly creations of some dumb idiots compared to the extent of knowledge we possess now - the practices must have been great and requisite to 'bind' the people together for collective survival at the time they were formed, much like the false boundaries of a 'community' or a 'province' or a 'Country' - but now the boundaries are seamless, I am not patriotic - make no mistake I love the Indian culture, tradition, but I dont hate Pakistan or America or any other country for that matter. Because again for me, Country, India, are just words. They carry no meaning. The people make sense to me - and I know there are good people in India, good people in Pakistan, good ones in America, good ones in Antarctica. And again, good is just a word and the definition that I apply to 'Good' may not be applicable to others - and thats understandable. And thats what I dont understand, why one needs to go by the set definition of 'Good'!?
My definition of 'Good' is something that I built over the span of over 25 years and I cant define it because it is a truth within me that cant be put in words - not in English, not in Hindi, not in Telugu. When I look at a person and interact with one or when I read about people I FEEL someone is good and may be someone isnt. So, for me there is no problem with a MUSLIM, or a PAKISTANI, or a BLACK or a WHITE or a CHINESE or an INDIAN or a HINDU as such. I might try to not be around any of these based on what they are personally, but not because of what they believe in. Because, again, it frikking doesnt matter to me.

So, back to my point - why does one have to spread their religion - why does one have to believe in some 'GOD' and the 'GOD' that others have 'told' them? Personally I wont believe in a 'GOD' unless the 'GOD' comes to me and shows up, but then I might write-off that interaction as just a perception and an imagination, because that is what life is anyway - just a speck of imagination. Not much of a meaning. And for such a thing why destroy other's imagination (life) just because he doesnt believe in someone else's imagination(God) the way you do?

Compassion is not told or taught - what I feel for animals was not taught - I used to kick puppies (sick kid) or stomp spiders (Damn it!) when I was kid, and I was never told that I shouldn't. Never told that I need to be compassionate towards the fellow living creatures. I do not eat meat, not because I was told not to - but because I don't want to. I don't want to be called a Vegetarian/Vegan because thats just a word. I know what I feel and what I want to and no one can change that. That is what I understand. And what I don't understand is the incompatibility, forceful spreading of thoughts own or others'; more so of others'.

Stop the killing - stop the preaching - keep believing if you have to - Eat, make merry and sleep - if you like to.
But why did I write this post and share it with you? Am I trying to make you believe in what I do? Up to you to decide, but I dont WANT to, and surely I wont come killig you or banish you for not agreeing with me.

The scriptures that you think are a fad says the next war will not be fought with just guns blazing like before but through religion. It may have already started for all you know.
The strongest is trying to survive all over again. History repeats itself. Yeah most of it is distorted but there must be some truth as there is to all legends.
Views are mixed about everything. Half of what you say is your disgust speaking.
You may not believe in the religions but I respect the story telling capability they have. I am a romantic and I believe all kids (read humans) need these stories, beliefs to carry on with life.
Not many can afford to think like you coz they are not so strong or fearless. They need to know someone is looking out for them even if they do not see who it is.
And praying to one god means there is that one god separate gods for different religions. That again is distorted. Its not praying to any specific god on a cross or playing the flute but to the power we all have within us that helps us to get up once again and carry one with life after our worst failures. It gives us the power to stare life in the eye and not cower with fright. You believe it is your own, others like to believe it comes from a superior being who blesses them. So be it. Everyone needs something to hold on to carry on.
I respect your love for animals, for being a vegetarian. I have the will to stop smoking/drinking overnight but not yet the will to give up meat for my love of animals... though I love them no less. But then I can beat all odds and start again over and over which a lot of people lack.
Like I said... to each his own. Get over the anger. I know life disgusts you sometimes. But lashing out and creating enemies by saying all this is not a solution. You keep doing your little good and hope things are better in future so our kids see more of love and less of hatred.

Probably the scriptures say that about the war because they are designed to be so? They are written to protect the 'central' idea of a 'silo'ed group of people so that the 'Silo' either grows or destroys other 'Silo's?
Well, there are a lot of good analytical books around - which may make good predictions of where our civilization might be headed and where we might be headed as a planet. Those are not considered to be Holy!?
And, I am disgusted but none of this is my disgust speaking - it is the truth. The words might have been used to express disgust, but the crux is my viewpoint, and has been since I knew my way around this world.
And I was careful not to use the word 'Love' for animals and 'Vegetarian'. I dont want to be bound by ideas someone else defined. I at times have stuff that has egg and have unintentionally eaten a lot of meat. But I dont want to kill myself on that!? And I do not cook onions/potatoes with greenshoot and dont eat sprouts. Some might see a hypocrite in me, for eating an onion as such bt not with sprout - but that is my notion. And I dont 'Love' animals. I treat them the way they need to be, for what I understand my position and that of these other fellow beings. And for that matter I love most items around me. I feel sorry for a pen that runs out of ink, I feel sorry for a dead battery, I cry when I have to move out of a home because I miss the walls and the door.
I say all the crap above because, that is my view of the world and is not inspired by none. And I dont understand why people let others do that. And so strongly. In the name of religion.
And why some want to make others listen to them and some older morons' ideas and spread those ideas and ideologies.
That is all I wonder - but I dont hate anyone. Not the mullahs, not the Muthaliks, not the Senas, not the Bush neither the *libans. I might be angry with some at some point, but in the end all are animals and I know I have to treat them well.
Life never disgusts me. Nothing disgusts me over a long period of time. Anger is out of me in a few moments usually - sorrow remains a while - knowledge of expreiences including anger/sorrow remain forever entrenched.
And I add them to my knowledge of the world and redefine it everytime.
And if those ideas 'create enemies' then that would've 2 be one more experience understanding why.
I dont want 'our kids' to see more love and less hatred. I want US to see that and do that. I am not the future kind. I am not the present kind. You know, kinda in between.

I understand ur opinion on scriptures - and I concur - they are good books with romantic to sleazy stories in them which everyone should read at some specific age.
But there ends their value - they can not be books of everything.
They can not be 'the savior' - at least no one can rub it on to me to say it is. And thats what I dont understand, why others let some others do so!
I understand that 'God' is that rope to cling on to and the punching bag when things are going wrong, and source of inspiration and self-control when things go well. But tighter coupling of 'God' and 'World' based on someone else's ideas is what I can not understand. :-)

Disagreed: Well, it's not that simple, even logically speaking, I believe. Most human individuals are followers and need specific direction to be successful in whatever they do (a very small percentage are leaders). Since society by itself has largely lacked (and still lacks) sufficient moral leadership to guide them, people turn to concepts of beings far superior to themselves to show the right way (Gods, prophets, saints etc). Now, religion evolves along with society to meet the leadership needs of the times. societies try to use it to the best advantage, sometimes getting into conflict with people with dissimilar historical interest groups, hence different religions. The crusades and Jihads of the dark ages had far more loot and political intricacies to qualify them as just religious wars.
That said, However, With the current state of society as large, removing religion from the equation altogether will be very dangerous, especially when adequate replacement leadership is lacking. That will remove the (at least rough) moral guidelines of the religions and fear of hell, and humankind will dwindle down to individualistic survival traits. In ecological terms, these can be very ruthless in an overpopulated and under-resourced niche. So we do still need a little religion, I think.

Srik (imho) - Religion is the crest of philosophy the community has, when it was made/proposed. Religion is just a rebellion against the existing (then and everytime) state of the community. Any rebellion is just an other religion, named or unnamed, followed or abandoned(atleat it lives until the writer/followers die!). When we talk of humans as social beings, they always are in an urge to make groups, and search for commonality amongst them, leaving the fact that we are all perishable earthly beings, searching for more commonalities., just like we both are from india, most of us are from asia , and are hindus and are from same college , same color , caste and so on ... goes the saga of grouping people. So the philosophy of spreading the "Religion" is -> according to me as of now -> an urge to be part of a superior race , in terms of headcount :) , and the urge is similar to that same urge which collectively killed Socrates... called - DEMOCRACY. a religion : follower :: constitution : citizen :: rules : employee :D if i should collectively banish any rule forced upon me , then i should not or mightnot accept any rule called company policy or accept the laws of the land. and if am opposing religion and not the constitution ... then there is a serious concern on my truthfulness :D am i right ?
